Longest in Asia | Hunan Xuefeng Mountain Cableway Passed Inspection and Entered Trial Operation
Recently, the Hunan Xuefeng Mountain Cableway, designed and manufactured by Beijing Materials Handling Research Institute Co., Ltd. (BMH), a subsidiary of CAMCE, successfully passed the acceptance inspection by National Center of Passenger Aerial Ropeway Safety Supervision and Inspection and has begun trial operation. With a total length of 7,600 meters and a vertical elevation difference of 1,158 meters, it is the longest cableway in China and the longest alpine cableway in Asia. This “Sky Road in the Clouds” now stands ready to offer visitors a magnificent journey through sea of clouds.
The cableway is equipped with 51 support towers and 114 eight-person gondolas. It operates at a maximum speed of 6 meters per second and has a one-way transport capacity of 1,200 passengers per hour. As a major national tourism infrastructure project, the Xuefeng Mountain Cableway broke ground on March 1, 2020, and underwent over 1,800 days of meticulous construction and technical excellence. BMH’s technical team innovatively adopted a "mid-station dual-drive system," dividing the line into sections A and B to achieve drive redundancy backup and emergency braking within seconds, ensuring smooth operation across an elevation difference of over 1,000 meters.
The lower station of the cableway is adjacent to Xupu South Station (on the Shanghai-Kunming High-Speed Railway) in Huaihua City. The mid-station is located in Huanglong Village, Beidouxu Town, Xupu County, while the upper station leads directly to the Beidou Peak area of Longhui County, Shaoyang City, at an altitude of over 1,500 meters. Linking two prefecture-level cities with a single cableway is exceptionally rare in the history of cableway construction in China.
As a crucial link in regional cultural and tourism integration, the Xuefeng Mountain Cableway will activate tourism resources in Huaihua and Shaoyang, driving the development of 12 characteristic villages along the route. Estimates indicate that the project will increase local comprehensive tourism revenue by 300% and create over 10,000 jobs, serving as a model project for rural revitalization.
The 23-minute journey above the clouds offers a spectacular sightseeing experience of majestic landscapes. Let us witness the symphony between the 155th detachable gondola cableway and the sea of clouds, and listen to the new melody of the times echoing across the Xuefeng Mountain range.
