Recently, the first international standard on design calculation for jib cranes led by Beijing Materials Handling Research Institute Co., Ltd. (BMH), a subsidiary of CAMCE, was formally approved and released by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Titled ISO 4301-4:2025 Cranes — Classification— Part 4: Jib Cranes, this marks China’s first initiative to lead an international standard in the field of fundamental theoretical research on crane design calculation. BMH served as the project leader and working group convener throughout the development process.

During the formulation of this international standard, BMH conducted in-depth research into decades of data on the working groups of jib cranes in China, covering design, usage, and inspection. Integrating the latest product technologies and standard requirements, BMH actively contributed Chinese expertise and solutions, implementing systematic revisions to the original standard. Key technical changes include modifying the classification method for the working groups of jib cranes, introducing working group classifications for fixed cranes and derrick cranes, and shifting from a "working time"-based grading system to a "working cycle"-based calculation method. To incorporate technical feedback from domestic and international experts during the revision process, the working group organized three domestic expert seminars and four international working group meetings. Facing numerous challenges, the team collaborated diligently and successfully completed the revision of this international standard, contributing solid Chinese expertise and demonstrating proactive Chinese responsibility in advancing the modernization of global standard governance in the crane industry.
