Snow and ice equipment serves as the foundation for winter sports and a key component of the ice-and-snow economy. Recently, CCTV’s Economic News reported on the latest advancements in China’s large-scale winter sports equipment, interviewing project staff from BMH (Beijing Materials Handling Research Institute Co., Ltd.), a subsidiary of CAMCE, at the Jilin Beidahu Ski Resort ropeway project site. The segment highlighted the advantages of domestically produced ski ropeways.
As a leading Chinese enterprise specializing in ropeway and cable car R&D, design, and engineering, BMH has been developing passenger ropeways since the 1980s. It pioneered several major domestic ropeway systems, including China’s first single-circulating chairlift, first double-reversible ropeway, first pulsed gondola ropeway, and first detachable grip ropeway, all successfully brought to market by BMH.
BMH has long dominated the domestic ropeway market share. Its technology and products have been deployed in high-profile projects such as the 2008 Beijing Olympics opening ceremony, the 500-meter Aperture Spherical Telescope (FAST), and the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics’ freestyle skiing ropeway.
BMH’s ski ropeways have repeatedly filled domestic technological gaps and set records across China and Asia. To date, BMH has delivered 140 operational passenger ropeways nationwide, including 55 detachable ski lifts servicing major resorts like Wanlong, Beidahu, the Silk Road,Keketuohai, and Hemu Jikebulin. In its report "China’s Ice-Snow Economy Nears Trillion-Yuan Mark: How Domestic Equipment Takes Center Stage,"Xinhua News Agency recognized BMH and other homegrown brands for their critical role in supporting the rapid growth of ski resorts.
