On 27th, April 2016, Xinhua News Agency covered Sri Lanka Yan Oya Reservoir Project under the title of Chinese enterprise assisting thousands of households of Sri Lanka to access to clean drinking water. This report is reprinted in 25 media including Chinanews.com, Huanqiu.com, News.163.com, News.ifeng.com and Asia Pacific Daily.

Anuradhapura used to be one of Sir Lanka’s main battlefields for its civil war. After the war, the infrastructure was damaged severely and people were in extreme lack of water resources. During the dry season, the local people are short of not only irrigation water but also drinking water as well. The project is to construct five earth fill main dams with the total length of 5.9km along the Yan Oya, which can irrigate 7000 hectare’s crop, benefit over 7000 households and create 3000 jobs for local people. This project can solve the water shortage problems and provide irrigation water for boundless cultivated land in dry season, raising farmland’s utilization ratio and grain output and satisfying the needs of agricultural irrigation water and living water in central and northern Sri Lanka. At present, the main dam has taken shape and the excellent construction quality is well received among local governments and local people.

CAMCE takes initiative to practice “one belt, one road” strategy, and builds livelihood projects while expanding its overseas market together with local partners. On one hand, it can bring tangible benefits for local people; on the other hand, it helps Chinese enterprises to establish sound images in overseas market.
